In the introduction “They say/I say”, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein believe that writers should use the model of “entering the conversation” in their writing. According to the article it helps us successfully enter not only the world of academic thinking and writing but also the wider worlds of civic discourse and work. I agree that writers should use the model of entering the conversation because it helps readers to understand better and more clearly so the readers can understand the writer’s points of view in a better way.

I agree how learning to look at art helps us to analyze other situations because art helps us to investigate deeper and better. In another word, art helps us our ability to translate to other what we have seen. Therefore, those skills can save our lives during an emergency. For example, many professionals use art to analyze their skills. Art can give information and social information clearly. And also, learning to look at artwork helps us to give ideas and think critically.

Looking at Gerald Graff & Cathy Birkenstein writing in ” Entering the Conversation” The advantages of the model is that it obtains a structure through it all. You’re getting a perspective of the conversation but basically having an accuracy of how you speak to others in a conversation.

I would actually agree with the use of art work actually helps us analyze other situations because looking at art work you can see a certain point of view that’s being show to you that can’t be seen by someone else. In the video it basically has a break down of steps where you yourself can have a better understanding of it all.

Writers can improve their writing with different techniques. One of them is by using the model of “entering the conversation.” In this technique, writers observe and listen more to what others have to say before putting forward their own ideas so that they can present their arguments or their ideas in context to what others are saying. It also helps writers make their statement stronger by supporting their argument based on evidence or what “they say.” This way readers can understand all aspects of the topic and the reasoning the writer presents.

I believe that learning to look at artwork helps us to evaluate other situations. It improves the way we see things around us if we pay attention to every little detail to find meaning. It compels us to think and question what lies in front of us and try to understand the situation. It can open new dimensions we may usually overlook and help us to comprehend better. We can implement this skill in our daily lives to get a deeper understanding of everything around us and be more aware and develop our analytical skills.

  1. Writers have a greater advantage when they use the model “entering the conversation”. One of first advantages I noticed is structure throughout the conversation or text. Many students including may struggle with this sometimes. So having a structure makes the conversation or text flow better. Another advantage that really stuck out to me was making sure your position and viewpoint in the conversation are clear so you can get a accurate and engaging conversation from your peer(s).
  2. Learning how to look at artwork definitely helps us analyze other situations presented us. The video ‘How Art Can Help You Analyze’ literally breaks down 5 steps or methods we can use to analyze a picture or situation. I’ve also realized while I’m at work I use all of these methods. Just to refresh you guys memory the methods were ‘Study the Picture (situation) Thoroughly, Analyze the Elements Observed, Articulate the Succinctly, and Formulate Questions.’ When you use this step while looking at a picture it helps you look deeper than surface. This method has also helped me during work too!

According to Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, writers are encouraged to use the “entering the conversation” model. This model is beneficial because it adds context and thus gives the reader an idea as to what the writer will be talking about. In addition, it helps the writer observe each side of the argument in what the two groups believe in so that the writer can write about it in order to express his/her belief.

The use of artwork does indeed help people analyze other situations because each person has a different perspective which can be useful. As shown in the “How Art Can Help You Analyze” video, people with different positions tend to look at an artwork differently because they can see details that not others may not.

According to Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, writers should use the model of ” Entering the Conversation” in their writing. The “They say/ I say” format helps writers expand their thinking and interpret their own claim and counterclaim. Once the reader can get a general idea of what you are talking about this will allow the reader to agree or disagree based on your reasoning/evidence. Being able to state your claim and analyzing different point of views your argument will be more credible. Just like a conversation you start of with a idea and build off someone’s else responses for example someone may say abortion should be allowed under certain circumstances and goes on with the reasons and other person will respond and say I agree with you but killing a fetus after certain amount of weeks shouldn’t be allowed and this conversation will keep going causing a debate.

Learning to look at artwork help us analyze other situations from the smarthistory videos because you see your point of view and can translate your view to others even though someone else may have a different perception. Looking at the artwork can also help you with communication skills by asking questions and solving real world problems.
